Lithium reduces neonatal isolation-induced anxiety-like behavior in the elevated plus maze test. Both time spent in open arms (A) and the number of entries into open arms (B) are dramatically reduced in isolated rats during test, and lithium treatment rescues the impairment. Two-way ANOVA analysis was used in this experiment. For time spent in open arms: treatment × drug, F(1, 96) = 1.354, P > 0.05; treatment, F(1, 96) = 4.497, P < 0.05; drug, F(1, 96) = 4.651, P < 0.05. For entries into open arms: treatment × drug, F(1, 96) = 0.886, P > 0.05; treatment, F(1, 96) = 5.134, P < 0.05; drug, F(1, 96) = 5.389, P < 0.05. Data show mean ± SEM (*p < 0.05; **p < 0.01).
