Each point corresponds to one fitness value. To improve the visualization of the data on x axis, random values taken from a normal distribution with mean 0 and standard deviation 0.1 are added to the Hamming distances. The curvature of the red curved fitted to the data points defines population epistasis, which in this example is −0.0405.
