ifo-1 mutants lack the prominent endotube and present instead large junctional aggregates. Electron micrographs taken from WT N2 (A,D,E) and strain BJ142 ifo-1(kc2) (B,C,F). Note the electron dense endotube in WT (A, black arrowheads), which is absent in kc2 and the presence of large aggregates (white arrowheads in B,C,F) next to the CeAJ (black arrows). In addition, the lumen (L) is distorted in kc2 (B) and the microvilli are less ordered (C,F). They still contain, however, characteristic parallel actin filament bundles.
