Ambient level of L-[¹⁴C]glutamate in the control nerve terminals (solid line), and in the presence of D-mannose-coated γ-Fe₂O₃ nanoparticles (250 µg/mL) (dotted line). After loading with L-[¹⁴C]glutamate (1 nmol/mg of protein, 238 µCi/mmol), aliquots of synaptosomes were collected at different time intervals, centrifuged, and the radioactivity was determined as described in section Experimental. Total synaptosomal L-[¹⁴C]glutamate content was equal to 200,000 ± 15,000 cpm/mg protein. Data are means ± SEM of five independent experiments, each performed in triplicate.
