Evidence for increased Ca2+-mediated proteolysis following MCA occlusion/reperfusion in gsn–/– mice. Gsn+/+ and gsn–/– mice were subjected to 2 h MCA occlusion and were sacrificed 1 h after reperfusion. Coronal brain sections were immunostained with antibodies against calpain-cleaved spectrin and MAP-2; additional sections were reacted with biotinylated horse anti–mouse IgG (upper panels). Note increased IgG immunoreactivity, increased spectrin immunoreactivity, and decreased MAP-2 immunoreactivity in the gsn–/– mice.
