Cells were cultivated in 50 ml Erlenmeyer flasks at 30°C and 150 rpm. 500 μl samples were taken at time points indicated. Conversions were performed with 100 μM substrate in 1.5 ml reaction tubes at 30°C for 60 min. The reactions were quenched and extracted with ethyl acetate and the steroid conversion was analyzed with HPLC. The activity of B. megaterium after 16 h cultivation was defined as 100%. Results are shown as mean values and deviations are from two independent experiments.
