Figure 3.

Figure 3

(a–c) E14.5 FVII+/+/TFPIδ/δ (a), FVII+/–/TFPIδ/δ (b), and FVII–/–/TFPIδ/δ (c) embryos. Massive hemorrhage and edema in the head, and general anemia, can be readily observed in the few FVII+/+/TFPIδ/δ animals that survive to this age. FVII+/–/TFPIδ/δ embryos also present some hemorrhage in the head, whereas the FVII–/–/TFPIδ/δ embryos show no abnormal bleeding events. (d and e) H&E staining of E14.5 FVII+/–/TFPIδ/δ (d) and FVII+/+/TFPIδ/δ (e), demonstrating massive bleeding in the heads of both embryos but significant loss of brain matter surrounding the hemorrhage in the latter embryo. (f–i) Diffuse fibrin deposition (gold) is observed in E14.5 FVII+/–/TFPIδ/δ (f) and FVII+/+/TFPIδ/δ (g) liver sections, but not in FVII–/–/TFPIδ/δ (h) or wild-type liver (i).
