Analysis of differentially expressed genes during N. lugens development. The transcript levels of N. lugens SP and SPH genes in eggs, 2nd instar nymphs, 5th instar nymphs and female and male adults were obtained from the N. lugens gene expression profiles that are available in the Sequence Read Archive (SRA) database (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sra). The expression levels were determined by calculating the number of unambiguous tags for each gene and then normalizing to TPM (transcript copies per million tags) [25]. The differentially expressed genes were identified based on the values of false discovery rate (FDR) ≤0.001 and log2 ratio ≥ 1 between two samples. 2nd, 5th, F and M refer to the 2nd instar nymphs, 5th instar nymphs and female and male adults, respectively.
