Effect of interstitial water on the mode of GO thermal reduction (explosive vs. non-explosive). DSC thermograms 3a) GO cake which exploded during thermal reduction in N2 gas, 3b) 24 hour low temperature oven dried GO cake (note GO cake still explodes after drying as indicated by the truncated asymmetric exotherm, 3c) humidified GO cake DSC thermogram (note large water endotherm and smooth exotherm indicating no explosion). Interstitial water does not cause or promote the explosive mode of GO reduction.
