The identification of the hinge region. (A) The torsional angle difference between two models, 3IYF(open form) and 3J03(closed form). Because of the resolution difference between these two models (3IYF has a resolution of 4.8 Å, whereas 3J03 has a resolution of 8.0 Å), there exists substantial amount of noise. However, the significant angle difference in the figure indicates the existence of a hinge point in the intermediate domain. (B) Schematic of the torsion angle. It is defined as the angle between plane α (GLU 179-GLY 180-LYS 181) and plane β (GLY 180 –LYS 181- VAL 182). (C) A cartoon model of the wild type closed structure of Mm-cpn.
