Polyribosome profiles of 8- to 16-cell embryos incubated in the absence (A) and presence (B) of emetine. Cultures were incubated in parallel with those described in Fig. 1B except that [³H]leucine was absent. The control culture was taken at the 4.5 hr point of Fig. 1B and was 32% 8-cell and 52% 16-cell. The emetine/treated culture taken at the 6.5 hr point was 83% 8-cell and 17% 16-cell. Earlier profiles were similar for both cultures. Notations are as in Fig. 2. The total counts in gradients A and B are 21,390 and 19,320 cpm, respectively.
