Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) of stomach biopsies. FISH was performed on biopsy samples obtained from patients by endoscopy. Telomeres are stained with a FITC-labeled antitelomeric probe and are colored green. Picture A (male, 40 years old, endoscopy result: CNAG) demonstrates strong telomeric signals in normal stomach. Picture B (male, 40 years old, endoscopy result: CAG with moderate intestinal metaplasia) demonstrates weak telomeric signals in atrophic tissue, indicating that CAG may accelerate aging of the stomach.
