Feline T. foetus induces cytopathic effects on intestinal epithelial cells. IPEC-J2 cells were grown to confluence on chamber slides in the absence (A) or presence of coculture with feline T. foetus (B) or feline P. hominis (C) for a duration of 36 h. (B) T. foetus results in extensive destruction of the monolayer. Trichomonads (arrowhead) are observed adhering to the glass slide in areas that have become devoid of epithelial cells.
