Time course of OT's effects on food intake. Six-hour fasted rats (n = 12/group) were given an ip injection of vehicle, followed 30 minutes later by an ip injection of vehicle or OT (0.5 mg/kg) in a crossover experimental design. Food was returned approximately 10 minutes later at the start of the dark cycle. OT's anorectic effects occurred primarily within the first 30 minutes of refeeding because food intake was significantly reduced at this time point only (t₁₁ = 3.284, P = .007, paired t test). Data are expressed as mean ± SEM.
