Physical exercise increases the neural progenitor cell count in the peri-infarct region after an ischemic stroke. Expression of Nestin-positive cells in the peri-infarct region. Immuno-staining (A,B) and Western Blotting (C) analyses were performed. The expression levels of nestin and Pax6 in the physical exercised group were significantly higher than that in the control group at days 7 and 14 after MCAO, while no disparity were observed between the groups at day 3 (** p < 0.01). The results of westerns for Nestin and Pax6 are representative of three independent experiments.
