Airway responsiveness evaluation. A: following the protocol in Fig. 1, offspring of stressed mothers had increased enhanced pause (Penh) values in response to the 3 highest doses of methacholine compared with offspring of nonstressed mothers (n ≥ 13/group, *P < 0.05). Penh values were similar between offspring of stressed mothers and positive control pups. B: Penh values were elevated in offspring of dexamethasone-injected mothers compared with vehicle-injected mothers (n ≥ 9/group, *P < 0.05).
