The sequence of events on a trial in Experiment 3. A sample trial from the pre-cue condition is shown. A subject saw a numerical cue (“1” or “2”), which was followed by two Gabors presented in rapid succession. In the example illustrated, the cue was “1”, which signified that s₁ was the Target Gabor to be remembered and reproduced; s₂ was the Non-Target stimulus and could be ignored. Here, the subject reproduced s₁ by adjusting the Comparison Gabor’s spatial frequency until it matched the remembered frequency of s₁.
