Iodine staining of ssisa mutants. Plants were harvested at the end of the day, decolorized in hot ethanol, stained for starch with iodine solution, rinsed in water, and photographed. FW (in grams) of whole rosettes at the time of harvest is given as the mean ± se (n = 6, except n = 10 for ss1ss2ss3 and ss1ss2ss3isa). Starch stains dark and bluish, whereas phytoglycogen stains weakly with an orange-brown color. WT, Wild type.
