Precursor lesions can progress to cancer through the acquisition of epigenetic or genetic changes. Tumors from each subtype exhibit different characteristics, including their underlying molecular and genetic defects. However, whether small flat-elevated neoplasms can progress to other subtypes of CRNs remains unknown.
