Potential Risks

Avulsion of the quadriceps tendon (QT) strip from the patella may occur. The surgeon should apply careful preparation. If avulsion occurs, he or she should use a bone anchor for fixation.
The graft is too short. The surgeon should measure carefully before he or she cuts the QT strip. A length of 8 to 10 cm proximal to the patella is necessary. If the graft is too short, the surgeon should harvest a second strip of 3 mm (the QT is thick enough) and suture it onto the main QT strip.
