Confocal fluorescence images of A549 cells. A549 cells were treated with different concentrations of Au-SiNW nanohybrids and NIR light centered at 808 nm (0.30 W/cm²) for 20 min. The concentration of Au-SiNW nanohybrids was 0.100 mg/mL without NIR irradiation (a) and 0.100 (b), 0.050 (c), 0.025 (d), 0.010 (e), and 0.0 mg/mL (f) with NIR irradiation. After staining a cell population, apoptotic cells showed green fluorescence stained by YO-PRO-1, necrotic cells showed red color by PI, and control cells showed little or no fluorescence.
