Higher concentration of radicicol induces inefficient schizont-to-ring transition. A synchronized schizont stage 3D7 culture (0.8%) was grown for 50 h in the presence or absence of radicicol (8 μM). Parasitemia at every 10th hour was determined by counting a total of 2,000 erythrocytes, using Giemsa staining. The results from one of the two experiments with similar trends are shown. R, rings; T, trophozoites; S, schizonts.
