Lower concentration of radicicol causes arrest of schizonts in erythrocytic stage of P. falciparum in a reversible manner. (A) Schizont stage-synchronized 3D7 culture was exposed to constant drug pressure of three different concentrations of radicicol (0.5 μM, 1 μM, and 1.5 μM). The Giemsa-stained parasites are morphologically characterized as rings, trophozoites, and schizonts. (B) Radicicol was washed out at 20- and 40-h intervals, and distributions of rings, trophozoites, and schizonts were compared with those in the unwashed sample. These experiments were repeated three times with similar trends, and the results for one typical experiment are shown.
