H. pylori GGT and VacA are required and sufficient for protection against asthma. (AD) Groups of mice were treated as described in Fig. 1 with H. pylori extract generated from either wild-type (WT) or Δggt or ΔvacA mutant bacteria, and were subjected to ovalbumin sensitization and challenge. (EH) Mice were i.p. injected weekly with 25 μg per dose of either recombinant GGT or purified wild-type or mutant (Δ6–27) VacA starting on day 7 of age until the second sensitization.
