Real-time PCR analyses of various vSMC-secreted inflammatory markers when cultured on the different substrata. ANFS, for the most part, decreased the gene expression of inflammatory cytokines for both the soft and stiff substrata (p<0.05) and thus made ANFS more biomimetic. Notably, the levels of monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1) expression increased around twofold on stiff ANFS relative to soft ANFS. Statistically significant difference between nanopatterned and unpatterned substrata (p<0.05) for the same substratum stiffness is indicated with an asterisk. For all other substrata-type combinations, the identical signage indicates statistically significant difference for that pair.
