Reduction of Mb by Asc. (A) An illustration of reduction of 10 μM Mb(Fe3+) to Mb(Fe2+) by 10 mM ascorbate at 37 °C under anaerobic conditions, which was indicated by a shift of the heme Soret band from 409 nm to 434 nm. (B) The second order rate constant kMb at 37 °C was determined as (8.7 ± 0.3) × 10−2 M−1s−1 (n=5) by the plot of the pseudo first order rate constant kMb versus Asc concentration (10-100 mM).
