Active site of ThyX from T. maritima. The crystal structure (Protein Data Bank entry 1o26) shows dUMP (green carbons) bound to the active site, stacking directly below the isoalloxazine of the flavin (yellow, of course). The different subunits that make up the active site are colored differently. The residues mutated in this work are also shown (white carbons); others have been omitted for the sake of clarity.
