At the end of the observation period, spleens were removed and T cell proliferation was assayed in vitro using a 72 h stimulation with 10 µg/ml BSA, HSP65, P277 or the T cell mitogen Con A. Data were expressed as mean stimulation index (SI) of triplicate samples ±SEM. *p<0.05; **, p<0.01 compared with the PBS-treated group. SI was defined as the ratio of the mean absorption of cells cultured with antigen to the mean absorption of cells cultured with medium alone. All the alive mice were tested (n = 5 in group PBS, n = 5 in group pCYT: Nuc, n = 9 in group pCYT: HSP65-6P277, and n = 10 in group pHJ: HSP65-6P277).
