Histology of all tumour specimens and regional lymph nodes was confirmed with haematoxylin–eosin staining according to the International Union against Cancer Tumour Nodes Metastases classification. AJCC is a classification system developed by the American Joint Committee on Cancer for describing the extent of disease progression in cancer patients.
