Effects of SM on cartilage matrix components in the knee joints of rats following anterior cruciate ligament transection and medial meniscus resection. The effects of SM on PG, COL and Col II. Toluidine blue, Masson’s staining and immunohistochemistry were used to assess PG, COL and COL II. Photomicrographs were captured at ×200 magnification of representative cartilage sections from one animal per group. Data are presented as the mean ± standard deviation of samples from six rats in each group. ^*P<0.05 and ^***P<0.001 compared with the model group; ^###P<0.001 compared with the sham group; ^ΔP<0.05 compared with the model group at three weeks.
