Table 2.

Reasons for Treatment Failure in the Ahmed Baerveldt Comparison Study were different by treatment group

Ahmed Group Baerveldt Group
Inadequate IOP control without additional glaucoma surgery 18 (42) 15 (38)
Reoperation to lower IOP 16 (37) 7 (18)
Explantation for complication 3 (7) 4 (10)
Persistent hypotony* 1 (2) 5 (13)
Loss of light perception 5 (12) 9 (23)
Total 43 40

Data are presented as number (percentage of the total number of failures in each respective treatment allocation group). P = 0.109 (Fisher exact).

There were significantly more failures for IOP elevation and reoperation to lower IOP than other causes of failure (p=0.034)

IOP = intraocular pressure

*

IOP ≤ 5 mm Hg at 2 consecutive visits after 3 months
