Figure 1.

Vertical flowchart describing the selection process for our study of major cardiovascular risk factors among participants in the South Carolina WISEWOMAN Program, from May 2009 through June 2012. The top box shows the eligible population as 91,145 women. The next box shows the number of women in the general eligible population enrolled in the South Carolina Best Chance Network (BCN), 9,913. The following box shows the number of women participating in the South Carolina WISEWOMAN program, 5,429, which is a subset of BCN participants. Then the next box shows how many women were first-time participants in South Carolina WISEWOMAN, 4,266. The next two boxes show that data were incomplete for 694 women and complete for 3,572, the final number of women included in our study. The two adjacent boxes following that show that 1,794 fasted before clinical testing and 1,778 did not fast. The last two boxes show that among the women who fasted, we measured low-density lipoprotein cholesterol for 1,754 women and triglycerides for 1,771.
