Examples of pairs of stimuli that appeared in Experiment 2 & 3 for which the correct response was “different” (left) and “same” (middle). The tinting of the windows and the overall luminance was changed for stimuli appearing in the “same” trials. A mask (right), presented after the first image in a pair, was used to interrupt perceptual processing at specific points in time.
