Chemokine expression in Fr98-NSC- and mock-NSC-inoculated BALB/c mice. Total RNA from the brains of Fr98-NSC or mock-NSC mice at 21 days postinfection was analyzed for chemokine expression by using the RNase protection assay. Data are presented as the average of four mice per group and the standard error. Statistical analysis was done by a one-tailed Mann-Whitney test. P values were 0.014 for RANTES, 0.011 for MIP-1β, 0.029 for MIP-1α, and 0.029 for MCP-1.
