Correlation of model calculations with changes in TIRF intensity. (A) Measurements were taken over a 2.0 μm radius at the center of the contact region. The data for the nonspecific Alexa label were used to calculate the characteristic height of the microvilli and the rate of change in the height of the microvilli. A single coefficient characterizing the distributions of molecules relative to the topography was adjusted to match the data for individual molecular labels. All curves show good agreement. The distribution of CXCR1 (B) and LFA-1 (C) overlaid onto the shape of a model microvillus. Scale bars map colors to molecular density in number/μm2.
