*Data for Paenibacillus larvae phages BLA, BL2, PBL1, PBL2, PBL0.5c, PBL3, PPL1c, and phiIBB_Pl23 were taken from referenced publications [1, 37, 21, 22]. Independent electron microscopy data for phages PBL2 and PPL1c were not published; instead, they were reported to be indistinguishable from PBL0.5c and PBL1, respectively.

**Measurements were taken from published electron micrographs instead of reported data which were either not presented or were inaccurate.

— Phage measurements were not taken.
