Figure 2: — Comparison of zinc finger and TALE DNA-binding domains. A single zinc finger module recognizes three nucleotides of DNA while a TALE repeat module recognizes a single nucleotide of DNA. Next are shown front and lateral views of zinc finger and TALE DBDs. Shown is a six-finger zinc finger protein that consists of six tandem repeats of C2H2 zinc finger motifs, each consisting of approximately 30 amino acids and a TALE DBD consisting of 2 cryptic repeats and 22 canonical repeat modules. Structures were rendered using available structural information deposited in the Protein Data Bank [15, 22].
