Metabolic reactions for purine nucleosides in cardiac endothelial cells and in cardiomyocytes. Each enzyme (listed with enzyme number) binds substrate, and in the case of xanthine oxidase may bind the intermediate product xanthine. A few of these reactions also take place extracellularly, for example there is an ectodeaminase converting Ado→Ino, but no nucleoside phosphorylase. Interstitial ATP and ADP can be hydrolysed by alkaline phosphatase located near the upstream ends of capillaries.
