Model of the Tsr substrate recognition mechanism. A, the Tsr CTD mediates initial docking on the RNA substrate, with binding driven largely by the critical residue Arg-162. B, once bound, the Tsr NTDs are engaged and induce a rearrangement of the RNA structure (yellow shaded region is the most pronounced RNase V1 enhancement) that is signaled to the CTD to stimulate catalysis.
