Complement activation did not affect cercariae transformation. Staining for the tegumental marker protein SGTP4 following exposure to human complement was used to assess cercarial transformation. Parasites exposed to normal human serum (a) showed surface staining for SGTP4 similar to the parasites exposed to heat-inactivated NHS (b) as the positive control for transformation into schistosomula.
