Caveolin-1 deficiency results in increased immune cell recruitment in response to acute inflammatory challenge. Intravitreal LPS challenge induced a significant increase in immune cell numbers in retinas from Cav-1 KO mice compared with controls. Cells that expressed high levels of CD45 (CD45hi, total leukocytes) and PMNs (F4/80−; Gr1+), inflammatory monocytes (F4/80+; Gr1+), and macrophages (F4/80+; Gr1-) were quantified.
