Table 4.

Overview of visual attention markers over sessions 2–6, and P values of group differences.

Fullterms (n = 17) Preterms (n = 10) P value
Competitive condition
Frequency of looks (weeks) 14.6 (9.5–19.0) 14.1 (9.9–23.0) 0.824
Reaction time (RT) 9.4 (4.4–16.9) 6.8 (3.5–15.6) 0.046*
Non-competition
Frequency of looks (weeks) 6.5 (4.3–10.4) 6.4 (2.6–21.2) 0.902
Reaction time (RT) 3.2 (2.2–5.3) 3.2 (2.3–9.8) 0.711

Values are given as median (minimum–maximum). P values were calculated using the Mann–Whitney U test. Frequency of looks was defined as the age at which the infant reached 50% of the maximum relative frequency of looks. Reaction time was defined as the speed at which the child grows toward a lower reaction time (b1). A higher b1 value represents a slower development toward a lower reaction time. *P < 0.05.
