Optimizing the in surfo crystallization of LysP. (a) Long rod-shaped crystals were grown in a precipitant consisting of 0.1 M MgCl2, 0.1 M NaCl, 39%(v/v) PEG 400, 0.1 M Tris–HCl pH 8.5 in the presence of 5 mM
l-lysine. (b) Blocky crystals were obtained with a precipitant consisting of 0.1 M MgCl2, 0.1 M NaCl, 38%(v/v) PEG 400, 0.1 M Tris–HCl pH 8.5 in the presence of 5 mM
l-lysine. (c) Plate-shaped crystals were grown in a precipitant consisting of 0.1 M MgCl2, 0.1 M NaCl, 38%(v/v) PEG 400, 0.1 M Tris–HCl pH 8.5, 4%(v/v) 1,3-propanediol (Additive Screen) in the presence of 5 mM
l-4-thialysine. Crystals took six weeks to grow to maximum size at 20°C.
