Myotubes were grown and differentiated as described in Methods, and then the toxins (0.5 µg) were added to cultures using medium that contained the indicated proportion of water (gray bars). (A) Asp49 myotoxin, (B) Lys49 myotoxin. Control cultures exposed to the same medium conditions, in the absence of toxin, were tested in parallel (empty bars). Cytolysis was determined by the release of lactate dehydrogenase to the medium after 3 h. Each bar represents mean ± SD of triplicate cell cultures. Statistically significant differences (p<0.05) between two groups are indicated by dotted arrow lines.
