The error bars depict standard errors. Because event boundaries tend to occur when there is a change on a dimension, excluding clauses for which there was a change resulted in the lack of observations for some participants in the event boundary conditions. For the character dimension, 1 participant had no coarse observations, and 2 participants lacked coarse observations for the cause dimension. These situations were treated as missing data, and the data for those cases were imputed by predictions from a within-participant logistic regression predicting mention from the event structure variables and the individual situation change variable of interest
