The number and mean length of pili are denoted by N_p and l_p, respectively. Their extension and retraction speed is v_e and v_r. The average time for which a pilus can withstand its load is τ_s. The probability to attach, the pulling force, and the ratio of the threshold force to the pulling force are denoted by A, f_p, and f_th/f_p, respectively. For the BSA-coated surface, the value of A has to be set to 0.9.
