Effect of carbon source on the inhibition of yeast growth by 2DG. Wild-type yeast cells were grown in synthetic complete media with either glucose, sucrose, or a mixture of glycerol and ethanol as the carbon source. Overnight cultures were diluted in fresh media to an A₆₀₀ of 0.1 with the indicated concentration of 2-deoxyglucose. Cultures were grown for 18 hr and the A₆₀₀ was measured. Growth is plotted relative to the cell density of the culture without 2DG.
