Proteins that completely disappeared from or appeared in (see Table 5) the extracellular proteome are printed in bold. Proteins were identified by 2D PAGE and subsequent MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry and/or N-terminal peptide sequencing as described by Antelmann et al. (3-6). −, no protein(s) was reduced or increased in the medium of modified B. subtilis strains.
