Chlorella consumption prevents skeletal muscle atrophy in ALDH2*2 Tg mice. The cross-sectional areas of gastrocnemius muscle cells were stained with H&E 6 months after the initial administration of Chlorella in the diet. The scale bar indicates 100 μm (a–c). Gastrocnemius muscle cell size was measured, and is presented as the percent ratio (%) versus Wild type (d). Gastrocnemius muscle cell size and MDA and HAE had a significant negative correlation (e).
