FIGURE 4.

Antibacterial activities of ATIII-derived peptides at physiological concentrations. A, antibacterial effects of the peptides KTS43, FFF21, AKL22, and LL-37 were analyzed against E. coli and P. aeruginosa in viable count assays. 2 × 106 cfu/ml bacteria were incubated in 50 μl with peptides at the indicated concentrations in 10 mm Tris, 0.15 m NaCl, pH 7.4 (buffer), or in 10 mm Tris, 0.15 m NaCl, pH 7.4, containing 20% human citrate plasma (HCP) (n = 3, S.D. is indicated). B, peptide kinetics. E. coli and P. aeruginosa bacteria were subjected to the indicated peptides (at 6 μm) in 10 mm Tris, 0.15 m NaCl, pH 7.4, containing 20% human citrate plasma and incubated at 37 °C for 0, 10, 20, 40, 60, and 120 min. LL-37 data are shown for comparison.
